Any reference to Action for M.E. within the context of this Privacy Policy means both organisations. Action for M.E. merged with Westcare UK in September 2002.

What information do we collect and how do we use it?
When you make a subscription for membership, make an enquiry, or place an order for goods, we will need to ask for personal information about you. 'Personal Information' means anything that identifies you in some way, such as name or address. We may also ask for financial information regarding your debit or credit card details – if you are paying for membership or purchasing goods.

From time to time we would like to keep you in touch with the activities of Action for M.E. If you would prefer not to receive such mailings, please write to the Membership Administrator.

How does Action for M.E. protect your personal information?
When you make a payment on-line, we offer the use of a secure server. This encrypts all the information you input before it is sent to us. Check for the padlock icon at the bottom right of your screen as an indicator that your information is secure.

Action for M.E. is registered with the Information Commissioner in the United Kingdom as a Data Controller. We are legally bound by the Data Protection Act 1998 to ensure that information is held securely and only used for the purpose for which it was requested.

Does Action for M.E. disclose information to third parties?
Action for M.E. does not currently sell, trade or rent personal information to others. We may in the future agree with carefully selected (and like-minded) organisations to write to each other's contacts. If you wish to be excluded from these exchanges, please contact us either by email to admin@afme.org.uk or in writing.

From time to time, we may employ companies to perform functions on our behalf (such as the mailing of InterAction). Such companies will have access to the personal information required to perform that function, for example name and address, but may not use it for any other purposes, in accordance with UK Data Protection legislation.
