This is a collection of information and contact details of services which may be useful to adults with ME/CFS in England. It includes support groups, NHS clinics, private practitioners(mainstream and alternative) and advice agencies.
What can I find out?
You can use it to look for a type of service offered in a particular county. You may want to find CFS support groups in London, or an NHS service in Shropshire, or advice about benefits in Cornwall or advocacy on your legal rights at work in Newcastle, or an alternative therapist in Leeds...this is the place to look.
Are all these services free?
No, not all are free, although many are. We have included private as well as NHS and other free services as sometimes these can be useful. For example, sometimes it can be difficult to get a medical diagnosis which would allow you to access further support - so it may be helpful to be able to find a private doctor who can offer diagnosis and management.
When was the database made?
This database was created during 2008. Unfortunately it will not be automatically updated, so some entries will become out of date. If one link doesn't work please try others, or search for the service by name on the internet.
Are all the services checked for quality?
No, we have not been able to 'vet' all of these services. Also, what works for one person may not work for another. Being listed on this database is not a vote of confidence, but hopefully some of the information will help you find services that are right for you.
Who created the database?
The database was created by Monica Curran, Lee Hooper and team members at the University of East Anglia in partnership with many people who contributed information, working as part of the National ME/CFS Observatory project, funded by The Big Lottery Fund and supported and partnered by Action for ME.
We hope you find that this database helps you find your way around services currently available for people with ME/CFS.
