Action for M.E. is organizing a conference, Work, welfare benefits and M.E. – is anyone listening? , 12.15-4.45pm, Saturday 25 September 2010, at Allen & Overy, One Bishops Square, London E1 6AO.
The conference aims to enable people with M.E. to discuss with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) their experiences of the welfare support system and their employment problems.
Highlights will include dissemination of the findings of the National M.E./CFS Observatory’s work, which has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
Action for M.E.’s CEO, Sir Peter Spencer, says:
“In addition to Government policy and budgetary constraints, DWP policy is shaped by evidence from users of their services and by research data from projects such as the M.E./CFS Observatory. It is vital that the nature of this chronic fluctuating illness is properly understood by all those supporting people with M.E.”
The event is aimed at people with M.E. and their carers, together with the health and other care professionals who support them, plus welfare support policy makers.
No conference fees are payable thanks to the generosity of the Big Lottery Fund in supporting the work of the National M.E./CFS Observatory. However, it will not be possible for the conference organisers to reimburse travel or accommodation expenses.
Places will be limited. For further information or to register your interest, contact Action for M.E.’s conference organiser, Sara Brooks. Tel: 0117 927 9551 or lo-call 0845 123 2380. E-mail Sara Brooks.
