Action for M.E. survey now live

01 July 2010

Have you tried GET, GAT or exercise on prescription?

We are looking for people with M.E., who have experience of graded exercise therapy (GET), graded activity therapy (GAT) or “exercise on prescription”, to complete our survey on physical rehabilitation therapies.

Action for M.E. Chief Executive, Sir Peter Spencer, says:

“This investigation follows up on our 2008 Health and Welfare survey by probing more deeply the experiences of people who have tried the physical rehabilitation therapies, GET, GAT or “exercise on prescription.”

"There are major discrepancies between outcomes reported for these interventions by patients to Action for M.E. and to other patient charities compared with those reported by NHS clinics. We need a better understanding of why this is the case.  The questions in this survey are more detailed than those asked previously. They have been produced in consultation with patients and with health care professionals with a view to obtaining patient data derived evidence that the NHS is more willing to accept than in the past.

“The results should give us a better understanding of the patient experience of these physical rehabilitation therapies. We can then represent patient concerns with more authority and engage more effectively when debating topics such as the coming PACE trial results."

For further information, or to request a paper copy of the survey if you prefer, please contact Policy Officer, Tristana Rodriguez, 0117 930 1325.
